The Irish Wake

Our flagship — one of a fleet of near-identical Leopard cats we sail worldwide

About the Boat

The feel of a cool Manhattan apartment — that sails.

The Irish Wake is a brand-new 2026 Leopard 42 sailing catamaran configured in the "owner's layout" — three double-berth cabins, each with a private en-suite head and shower. She's 42 feet of thoughtfully designed sailing comfort, based at the Moorings/Sunsail Base in Road Town, Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands.

She accommodates two owners (Tim and Donna) and up to four guests (two couples). This is an intentionally small group — it's not a party boat or a flotilla. It's an intimate week with people who like each other, in some of the most beautiful water in the world.

The Irish Wake is our flagship — but she isn't the whole story. We have access to nearly-identical Leopard catamarans at partner bases around the world. Fall for her here in the BVI, and you'll feel right at home aboard her sister vessels in Belize, French Polynesia, the Greek islands, and beyond — same layout, same comforts, and same handling at sea.

Where you'll sleep

Your private cabin

Each guest cabin is a private double with its own en-suite head and shower — light, air-conditioned, and your own quiet corner of the boat at the end of the day.

A private double cabin — surprisingly roomy, with hull-side windows.

En-suite head and shower in a Leopard 42 cabin

Every cabin has its own en-suite head and shower.

There's plenty of room for your things, too: each cabin has a hanging closet, large built-in drawers, and a roomy additional storage locker at the foot of the bed. You'll also find reading lights and electrical sockets for charging your devices right by the pillows.

Hang-Out Spaces

More room than you'd expect.

Catamarans have a reputation for surprising people. The Irish Wake has multiple distinct areas, each with its own character:

  • Aft Cockpit — large covered dining and gathering area, easily seats eight for dinner. Where most of the socializing happens.
  • Forward Cockpit — Donna's favorite spot underway, with beanbag chairs leading to the trampoline and dolphin chairs at the bow.
  • Interior Saloon — dining area, navigation station, full galley. Central hub of the boat.
  • Sun Lounge — the rooftop deck above the cockpit. Incredible for sailing, sunbathing, and star-gazing at night.
  • Raised Helm Station — covered, accommodates two sailors comfortably. Three if we like each other. Anyone who wants to take the wheel is welcome.

Special mention: underwater blue lights that attract enormous freaky-eyed fish at night.

The Moorings Base, Road Town

Where the Irish Wake lives, and where many charters begin and end.

The Moorings/Sunsail Base in Road Town has the ease of an upscale resort with the buzz of a world-class sailing hub. When you arrive, a staff member will meet you at the flower-lined tropical portico and guide you in — often with a welcome drink in hand.

On-base: a palm-lined tropical pool with pool-side bar, a full-service spa with massage services, two restaurants (Charlie's for fine dining; a more casual option near the pool), a boutique hotel, coffee shop, dive shop, air-conditioned shower facilities, ATM, and a new full-service grocery store for last-minute provisioning.

Just outside the main gate: one of the best French bakeries we've encountered anywhere in the Caribbean — fresh sandwiches, pastries, croissants, soups, pâtés, cheeses, and a very decent wine section. We do a lot of last-minute provisioning here on departure morning.

Getting to Tortola

✈️ Direct from Miami
American Airlines (American Eagle) operates daily non-stop jet service into EIS (Tortola). Now running up to five flights per day.

A wider world of sailing

Where else we sail.

The BVI is home base — and a spectacular place to start — but it's one stop on a much larger journey. For groups who want a different backdrop, we can set a course for places like:

Bahamas (Exumas) Antigua Grenada St. Lucia Martinique St. Martin Belize La Paz, Mexico French Polynesia Thailand Seychelles Greece (Athens, Corfu, & Lefkas) Croatia (Split & Dubrovnik) Italy (Sicily, Sardinia & Bay of Naples)

Tell us where you've always dreamed of sailing — we're happy to talk through options, timing, and what each destination offers.
